Usagi says: "Meet one of the smartest people ever! Ami acts like her body is only there to keep her brain working, and has she ever got a nice piece of equipment in her noggin! I can't think of any time that Ami hasn't known the answer to a question. Don't think she doesn't earn those grades of hers, though - this girl studies all night, and crams all day! She's a bit of a bookworm, and kind of shy, but she's really a very nice girl when you get to know her better. Sometimes I think she's a little wierd, but then again, it must work for her, right? Actually, Ami was pretty lonely at her old school, before she transferred to Juuban Junior High, and met the best friend she's ever had. Who, you ask? Why, little old me, of course! I've been trying to make sure she loosens up and has a little more fun, and she tries to make sure I study for tests and get to school on time more often. It must work, because we both made it into Juuban High with Makoto and Minako, and that's something my teacher didn't think would ever happen! As Sailor Mercury, Ami is the brains of the team, as well, usually thinking up our tactics and strategies. After Tuxedo Kamen, sweet little Ami was the second person I ever worked with, and when it comes to sticking with her partners, she's true blue all the way!"

When Ami transforms into Sailor Mercury, she gains power over the element of ice. Many of her powers are ice-or-cold based, and for the most part defensive in nature. Sailor Mercury is the one-woman support crew for the Inner Senshi, analysing their opponents for weaknesses and devising various tactics and stratagems. Her most useful pieces of equipment are the VR Visor and her hand-held Mercury Computer, which aid her in these tasks. Sailor Mercury is not a warrior, and rarely if ever engages the enemy in direct combat. Her greatest weapon is her mind.

Ami Mizuno is the Sailor Senshi of the planet Mercury. In Roman mythology, Mercury was the god of thieves, merchants, and musicians, as well as the messenger of the gods. Legend has it that on the day Mercury was born he not only taught himself to walk and talk, but invented the lyre, a musical instrument that Ami uses in her Mercury Aqua Rhaphsody attack. Ami was the first of the Inner Senshi to join Sailor Moon, and thus one of the most experienced, but still has the least offensive power. Inspired by Mamoru Chiba's example, Ami wishes to study abroad and become a doctor, and has come dangerously close to abandoning the Sailor Senshi in order to follow this dream in the past.
